I provide (mostly online) psychotherapy or counseling for people who wish help reducing their addictive activities, quitting, remaining in control, or avoiding negative consequences. I work with addictions to substances, including drugs and alcohol, and some behavioral addictions. Whether it’s a couple of sessions or a couple of years, once or twice a week or less frequently, we would arrange times to talk together in person or through online video chat.

Approach to therapy:

I do not see addiction as a disease but as a set of interlocking cognitive and emotional habits, reinforced by brain changes that emerge with continued use. Helpful themes include reframing and transforming these habits, understanding their origins and their present appeal, tapering as necessary or desired, improving the internal dialogue, and finding new ways to connect with other people.

An initial consultation is free of charge, and I’m happy to provide occasional advice if I have time. For ongoing work, fees are negotiated directly, but are normally €150/hour. A sliding scale is available, based on financial need.
